About
Mission Statement
Libre Music Production (LMP) is a community-driven online resource, focused on promoting music creation and composition using free and open source (FLOSS) software. By providing hands-on material submitted by the community, such as guides, tutorials, articles and news updates, we want to show not only that there is great FLOSS audio software out there, but also how to practically use that software to make music.
LMP was born out of a perceived lack of integrated resources, and in particular a lack of information aimed at new and non-technical users.
The goal of LMP can be summed up in two main points:
- Promote and aid making music with libre software
- Involve the community in the process
Promote and aid making music with libre software
LMP provides a practical resource for creating music using FLOSS tools. While similar resources exist, LMP aims not to provide an exhaustive database or overview of what is available in the FLOSS music making world. Rather, LMP exists to provide practical resources for how to use this software. This includes guides, tutorials and workflows.
Anyone interested in making music using FLOSS software will find LMP a practical resource for getting started. However, the resource will be geared towards all levels of expertise, from beginners to more advanced users and musicians.
Involve the community as much as possible in the process
In the spirit of FLOSS, an important goal for LMP is to involve the community as much as possible. This encompasses everything from reporting news to writing content, to programming of the website platform. LMP rests on the strong belief that – together as a community – we can convert our combined knowledge into something that will benefit us all. Together, we can build a platform that will allow people to utilize the FLOSS tools available for making music to a professional standard. It's very easy to contribute -
