Sample-based synthesis: Petri-Foo

Level:

A common approach to sound synthesis is to use samples of sounds together with a sampler. In this short video series, we show you how you can use the sampler Petri-foo to create your own interesting sounds, based on samples.

You can read more about Petri-foo and find downloads for it at the official Petri-foo website.

Part 1 - Guitar samples

In this first video we go through the following things:

Key-range set. Multiple patching. Amplitude control, main and EG1. Sample reverse. Patch detuning, including velocity sensitivity. Independent pitch key-tracking, positive, zero and negative values. Independent pitch-wheel value adjustment.

Part 2 - Saw-tooth wave samples

In this video, we explore:

Multiple patching; independent portamento; various detuning settings; filter cutoff/resonance; LFO settings.

Part 3 - Sample playback

In part 3 we have a look at things related to sample playback, like: reverse, loop, selected loop; amplitude envelope; monophonic/legato; portamento; detuning; multiple patches; sample trimming; LFO adjustments.
