Although we have done this successfully with several different HW setups, note that LMP does not take any responsibility for any catastrophic results of this tutorial. In the next part of this tutorial, "Arduino and MIDI in", we will introduce the optocoupler.

Q-stuff release frenzy

Rui Nuno Capela has been on a pre-LAC2015 release frenzy with his Q-stuff suite of software. In the past week he has released updates for QjackCtl, Qsynth, Qsampler, QmidiNet, QmidiCtl and of course Qtractor. You can find full details about these releases over at rncbc.org.

New release of Giada Loop Machine

Version 0.9.5 of Giada Loop Machine has been released. This version, codename 'Nabla Symbols', has a number of refinements, as well as permanent MIDI mapping.

DrumGizmo version 0.9.8.1-hotfix released!

The DrumGizmo developers have just pushed out a hot fix release, version 0.9.8.1. This fixes a rather serious bug in the resampling code that would cause sample skewing over the channels when resampling was enabled.

Qtractor 0.6.5 is out!

Rui Nuno Capela has just announced a new release of Qtractor, this time codenamed 'The Fermion Ray'.

Highlights of this release include -

  • MIDI clip record/overdubbing (NEW)
  • Extended track multi-selection for mute/solo (NEW)
  • VST-shell sub-plugins support (NEW)
  • JACK transport start/stop resilience (FIX)

MusE 2.2.1 released

The MusE developers have just released version 2.2.1.

Fixes and improvements include:

a2jmidid

a2jmidid is daemon for exposing legacy ALSA sequencer applications in JACK MIDI systems.

Equivalent functionality is now built into JACK 1. If you want to expose similar functionality using JACK 2 you will still need to use a2jmidid.

AVL Drumkits - Multiple format drum samples from Glen MacArthur

Glen MacArthur, the maintainer of AV Linux, has done some more work and improvements on his existing drumkit libraries and added a completely new one called 'The Red Zeppelin'.

He has also set up a webpage with details and images of the sampled drumkits. Here you will find links to SFZ and SF2 sample libraries. Hydrogen kits are due to be uploaded soon.

Drumgizmo is a drum sampler plugin available in the LV2 plugin format. It is also available as a standalone version. There are already drum samplers available for Linux, so what's so different about Drumgizmo?

Following hot on the heels of recent beta releases, the MusE developers have finally announced the stable release of version 2.2. The big news with this stable release is that MusE now has support for LV2 plugins.
