Dexed is a plugin synth that is closely modeled on the Yamaha DX7. The goal of this synth is to be a tool/companion for the original DX7. 

ams.lv2 is a set of LV2 plugin ports of the internal modules found in Alsa Modular Synth.

SuperCollider is an environment and programming language for real-time audio synthesis and algorithmic composition.

AMSynth is an open source realtime software synthesizer for Linux. Its operation is similar to analog Moog Minimoog and Roland Juno-60, which are considered classic synthesizers from the 1970s. It is available in various formats, including LV2 and DSSI plugins as well as JACK/ALSA standalone clients.

Pure Data (aka Pd) is an open source visual programming language. Pd enables musicians, visual artists, performers, researchers, and developers to create software graphically, without writing lines of code.

Pd is a so-called data flow programming language, where software called patches are developed graphically. Algorithmic functions are represented by objects, placed on a screen called canvas. Objects are connected together with cords, and data flows from one object to another through this cords.

FluidSynth is a real-time software synthesizer based on the SoundFont 2 specifications.

FluidSynth itself does not have a graphical user interface (GUI), however, there are frontends that exist for it, eg:

• EMAP

Since version 5.4, Ardour has a built in plugin called 'a-Fluid Synth' which uses FluidSynth as it's backend.

Whysynth is a DSSI Softsynth Plugin.
